Vivien Atkinson's Live Exhibition/Performance

You may have seen Sydney College of the Arts latest Artist in Residence as she walks purposefully around the streets of Rozelle and Balmain. Armed with a plastic bag she is on the lookout for the banal trash and litter that is scattered and dropped on every street. Searching the pavement and gutter, she stops to collect the objects that catch her eye.
At the end of her walk the accumulation is photographed and washed. The artist then sits at her jewellers bench and begins the transformation that will take the trash to treasure - creating souvenir brooches. Each one hints at a story of it’s past, is given both a new story and new life by the artist and now waits for a new owner to pick it up again from the pavement to complete the cycle.
The brooches will be available free to those who attend the exhibition/performance on Saturday 19 September in the Visitor’s Car Park at SCA starting at 10.00am.
