Journey to the Centre of the Mind

Jack Mcgrath film still

Journey to the Centre of the Mind is an accumulation of two years of research and pre-production by writer/director Jack McGrath. The project has been created as part of his Masters of Visual Arts (MVA) in the Film and Digital Art Studio at SCA. McGrath’s MVA research has focused on Surrealist animation and mythological narratives.

A fantastic trip into the human psyche, Journey to the Centre of the Mind takes the viewer on a voyage to a place that has never been discovered before. It is a story of a man’s inward quest to face his fear and unhappiness.

”My animation techniques and artistic style have been allowed to prosper through the constant support of both the academic and technical staff in the Film and Digital Art Studio. SCA has given me the artistic freedom and stimulus to explore my ideas without limits.

Film Production

The variety of skills brought together by the collaboration of artists from different disciplines has been an enriching and rewarding experience. Collaborating with other postgraduate students and alumni such as Kuyon Kang, Joshua Boerma, Vanessa White, Mark Eliott and Andrew Robards altered the dynamic of the film, turning it from an individual project to one that now involves many”, McGrath.
