Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Artists Travel Scholarship 2010 Recipient Announced

Justene Williams has been announced as the recipient of the 2010 Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Artists Travel Scholarship. The first part of Williams travel will include a residency at the Taipei Artists Village in Taiwan, researching the shadow plays commonly known as leather monkey shows. The second part of her travel and research will involve travel to Japan, for a residency at the Tokyo Wonder Site, located in Shibuya, researching ancient and contemporary aspects of Japanese culture.
"I am very honoured to be the recipient of the Fauvette Loureiro Travelling Scholarship. With the benefit of this Scholarship awarded on behalf of Sydney College of the Arts, I can continue to create new work for forthcoming exhibitions. Develop my practice further, potentially seeing my practice move into an international context. Whenever I have had the opportunity to travel and create art in a full time capacity, it has always been richly rewarding experience, both in terms of my practice and on me as an individual. I look forward to taking up the residencies next year in Japan and Taiwan," says Williams.
The exhibition of finalists work will be on display in the SCA Galleries until Friday 24 September.
