SCA Graduate a Finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize

Nathan Kelly

Nathan Kelly, a photomedia graduate from Sydney College of the Arts, was announced as one of the finalists of the National Photographic Portrait Prize.

The inaugural National Photographic Portrait Prize was exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, from December 2007 until March 2008, showcasing the best of Photographic Portraiture in Australia.

Kelly’s portrait is a dark and brooding image of former Cold Chisel member and songwriter, Don Walker. In this image Walker appears like a phantom from the darkness that is threatening to envelope him. The portrait was taken backstage at the legendary Cairns establishment, Jonno’s Blues Bar, and only a very simple lighting set up was used to create the stark and haunting result.
