Continuing students enrolment
Variation of Enrolment
For enrolment or variation of your enrolment please log in to Sydney Student.
For Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) students enrolment simply requires you to indicate whether you will be continuing with your studies. If you do not enrol your candidature may lapse.
For candidature variation requests (e.g. suspension, part-time, leave, time away) log in to Sydney Student to make your request.
For all coursework students:
- Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA)
- Master of Moving Image (MMI)
- Master of Contemporary Art (MCA)
enrolment requires you to select the units of study you wish to undertake in semester 1 and semester 2.
Students should refer to Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Handbook, which provides guidance on unit of study selections and unit of study outlines.
You can also find unit of study outlines in SCA Units of Study Outlines eCommunity site (log in LMS at http://sydney.edu.au/elearning/)
If a unit of study is not available for selection in your Sydney Student portal you can apply for it by using special permission. Login in to Sydney Student, then go to My Studies, Units of Study, Other Options, Apply for Special Permission.
For candidature variation requests log in to Sydney Student to make your request, except for BVA variation of disciplinary major and taking a special leave (up to four weeks).
Please note if you wish to study part-time, you select fewer units of study each semester. Most of classes are scheduled between 9 am and 5 pm. Visa requirements commonly restrict international students to full time study only. If you are an international student you must select units of study totaling 24 credit points per semester.
If you completed first year units of study in the Bachelor of Visual Arts, you can change you major in Sydney Student before selecting your units of study for second year.
If you completed one or more disciplinary major units of study, please do not change your major in Sydney Student. Instead, apply for disciplinary major unit/s of study, you wish to change to, by using special permission in Sydney Student:
- Login in to Sydney Student, then go to My Studies, Units of Study, Other Options, Apply for Special Permission.
- Request disciplinary major unit/s of study you wish to enrol in and nominate disciplinary major unit/s of study you wish to withdraw from.
- Your request must be submitted two (2) weeks prior to the commencement of the semester for which the variation is to be effective.
- Your request must be supported by a portfolio of your recent artwork or evidence that the co-ordinator of the major unit of study is satisfied that you have appropriate skills for study in that disciplinary major.
Please note that limited approval is granted for variation of major in the final year of the degree.
At SCA, you are expected to attend a minimum of 90% of timetabled activities for a unit of study, unless granted exemption by the Dean, nominee or lecturer most concerned.
If, due to family circumstances, financial difficulties, or misadventure, you are unable to attend your timetabled classes for a particular period of time within a semester, you may be granted special leave. Special leave can be approved for a maximum of four weeks. Please complete an Application for Special Leave form (docx or pdf) and send it with supporting documentation to the . Applications for special leave must be made in advance and not retrospectively.
If you are granted special leave, you will need to meet all assessment requirements for the units of study in which you are enrolled.
If your circumstances prevent you from undertaking your studies for a full semester, you may request to suspend your candidature. Suspensions may be requested for 1-2 semesters at a time. Requests for suspension must be made in advance and not retrospectively. Log in to Sydney Student to make your request.
