Curatorial Philosophy

The SCA Galleries play an important role in the life of Sydney College of the Arts as a resource and educational device for students and staff. In addition, SCA is interested in developing public understanding and appreciation of contemporary art by providing the community with access to a range of challenging and innovative exhibitions and events.

Committed to supporting projects that explore experimental approaches to the production and delivery of contemporary art and design the SCA Galleries fosters an environment that encourages critical discussion around issues relevant to current cultural theory and art practice.

The SCA Galleries are interested in cultivating and extending their relationships with cultural and arts events within the region and beyond and in developing strategic partnerships with contemporary artists, arts organizations and educators, engaging with the broader global community whilst providing a cultural focus within Sydney’s inner western suburbs.

The annual SCA Galleries program features work by Australian and international contemporary visual artists and designers and includes exhibitions by staff, alumni, graduate and postgraduate students. A program of public lectures, artist talks, seminars and a visiting artist program supports both the SCA Galleries and academic programs.

The SCA Galleries maintain strong links with the galleries located within the main campus of the University of Sydney.
