Research proposal guidelines
Research Proposal
A research proposal is a synopsis of the proposed research topic and should clarify the research topic and provide a context for the research as well as demonstrate an applicants' ideas, research methods and language skills.
Your proposal must be of 3-5 pages and include the following:
1. Mode of research:
- Creative work and research paper; or
- Thesis
2. Working title of project.
3. In relation to your creative work (if electing first mode of research)
- Please provide a description of the concept for your creative work. Describe why the creative work is significant.
- Describe the type of work you intend to produce, and the materials you think you will use.
- What minimum studio facilities do you require?
4. In relation to the written work
- Please provide a description of your research paper/thesis proposal. Include the aims of the research paper/thesis and demonstrate these can be met within 2 years. Describe why the project is significant.
- How does your proposal relate to the broader context of the visual arts? Please identify artists and theorists who are likely to be discussed in your work and demonstrate the connections of these people to your overall concept.
5. What methodology do you intend to pursue with research and writing for your research paper/thesis, in order to achieve your aims within the time period of 2 years? What resources do you intend to use (e.g. film and photographic archives)?
6. Please provide a brief bibliography relevant to the research paper/thesis.
