Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award 2009

Dawne Fahey

Master of Documentary Photography candidate, Dawne Fahey has been selected as a finalist in the 2009 Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award. PhD candidate, Sylvia Schwenk is also a finalist in the prestigious photography award. The exhibition will be on display from 4 April to 17 May, at the Gold Coast City Art Gallery.

Fahey has also been selected as a semi finalist in the 2009 Moran Photographic Prize. This is the third year in a row that she has been a finalist or semi finalist for the Moran.

Fahey’s work resides within the realms of the personal, the spectrum of life, fragmented by time, space and place. She makes images that are complex yet simple, human and emotional, their structure grounded by the psychological, physical, historical and spiritual elements found in everyday life. “Philosophically a gestalt is intrinsically formed between these elements, fractured by the ravages of life, or blessed by their most cherished moments. I am the vehicle for this to occur through the pictures I make. From an empathic and perceptive stance, I become the narrator of my subject’s lives.” says Fahey.
