Dominik Mersch Gallery Award recipient announced
Sydney College of the Arts’ Master of Fine Arts candidate, Yvette Hamilton, has been awarded the 2015 Dominik Mersch Gallery (DMG) Award announced at the opening of the postgraduate show on 3 December. The annual award provides an exhibition space in the Dominik Mersch Gallery for an artist selected from SCA's end of year postgrad show.
Yvette Hamilton is an Australian artist working in photomedia, video and installation. Her interdisciplinary practice creates work that explores both physical and virtual space through the convention and framework of portraiture. This exploration acts as a launching platform to explore the enmeshed concepts of place and being-in-the world.
"Winning the Dominik Mersch Gallery Award is a significant step in gaining greater exposure for my art practice. While I have exhibited widely in many artist-run initiatives, an opportunity to exhibit at the Dominik Mersch Gallery enables a step into the professional, commercial gallery context.
“This introduction helps to widen my profile and audience, and also act as a great learning experience that will enrich my practice and guide my future direction. Exhibiting my work at a gallery the calibre of Dominik Mersch, who represent a number of artists whose work I admire, is a great achievement in my practice to date,” said Yvette Hamilton.
Three works by the artist: 'Are You There' (2014), 'Here/There' (2014) and ‘Hello’ (2014) are currently exhibited in the SCA 2014 Postgraduate Degree Show that runs in SCA Galleries until 10 December.
