Specific background scholarships
The Scholarships Office has a number of scholarships for current students meeting specific criteria or with unusual skills.

Council of Education Scholarship
For: Children of teachers or officers of 3+ years standing with the NSW Department of Education & Training or the NSW TAFE Commission.
How much: $600
How long: 3 years
Applications close 24 May 2012.
This scholarship is for students who are currently enrolled in their first year of undergraduate study and is awarded on the basis of proficiency in the HSC.
Only one scholarship is available for award in each scholarship round. Applications are assessed on the basis of ATAR.
Freemason's Scholarship
For: Children or grandchildren of Freemasons of 5 years standing at the United Grand Lodge of NSW.
How much: $1,000 per annum
How long: 3 years

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of ATAR or last year's AAM depending on which year the applicant is in. Preference is given to students in their first year of study.
Konstantin Gawrilow Scholarship
For: Available to women who are 25 years old or younger, entering a first year course who are enrolled to study Russian language or literature (or both) at an Australian university (as these subjects are not currently offered at USyd) OR at the Centre of Continuing Education;
and either:
are of Aboriginal background and (i) have no living parents, or (ii) have only one living parent, or (iii) are cared for, or were until attaining majority cared for, by one parent by reason of the desertion of the other parent;
or
are not of Aboriginal background and (i) have no living parents, or (ii) have only one living parent.
How much: $7,500 per annum
How long: 1 year, with possibility of renewal if the student maintains satisfactory academic progress

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of HSC or equivalent entry examination results.
Spero Gravas Scholarship
For: Students whose parents or grandparents are or were at any time in their lives persons of Greek nationality.
How much: $400 per annum
How long: 1 year
Applications close 24 May 2012.
This scholarship is awarded on the basis of the previous years AAM. Only students in second year or above are eligible to apply.
Martin McIlrath Scholarship
For: Ex-servicemen & male children of ex-servicemen or women who are current or ex-members of the Australian armed forces in the Faculties of Agriculture and Environment.
How much: $1,000 per annum
How long: 1 year
Applications close 24 May 2012.
This scholarship is awarded on the basis of ATAR if you are a commencing student, or your results in the previous year of study if you are a continuing student.
