Sydney Conservatorium Postgraduate Equity Scholarships


The William McIlrath Memorial Scholarship

Background:

Established by Mrs Helen Selle and Mr Michael Winston-Smith in 2010 to support underprivileged Australian musicians seeking to study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Open to: The scholarship is open to full time (local) postgraduate coursework students who study performance with a research component.
 

The scholarships include equity criteria and are open to students who have experienced financial or other disadvantage which has had a clear negative impact on their tertiary study. Documentary evidence of this disadvantage (NB1) must be attached.

 

Equity Scholarship applicants must also demonstrate academic merit.

The Basil & Murial Hooper Scholarships

Background:

Bequeathed in 1966 from the Estate of Muriel Eunice Ebba Hooper to establish one or more scholarships for students of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in a field of studies deemed to be most warranted. Priority may be accorded to different instruments in different years.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students (both local and international) enrolled at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
  Scholarship recipients must enrol full-time in the agreed Faculty/degree program during the tenure of their scholarship.

The David & Nhila Dumbrell Scholarship

Background:

This scholarship was established to support piano students studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in financial need.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students (both local and international) enrolled at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
  Scholarship recipients must enrol full-time in the agreed Faculty/degree program during the tenure of their scholarship.

Helpmann Family Fellowship

Background:

Bequeathed in 1987 this fellowship was established to assist opera students to pursue study that is consistent with the development of a career in opera at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

The Kathleen and Allison Short Scholarship

Background:

Bequeathed by The Estate of Allison Louise Larsen to support talented students at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music studying piano, violin, viola or cello who are deemed to be in financial need.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students (both local and international) enrolled at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
  The recipient is to be a talented student of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music who is studying Piano, Violin, Viola or Cello.   
  The recipient is to be deemed to be in financial need.
Value: $10,000 per year

Background:

The Kirk Keating Scholarship for Saxophone

Background:

The scholarship is intended to support for one academic year for a first or second year student deemed to be in financial need and unable to afford tuition showing outstanding promise on saxophone.

  Candidates should show outstanding promise on a Saxophone instrument.
  Candidates should demonstrate academic merit and financial disadvantage.

Background:

The scholarships are intended to support students studying jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM) who are in financial needs.

The scholarship is intended to support any classical piano students who demonstrate financial disadvantage and promising talent.

Background:

The scholarship is intended to support a Postgraduate piano and a Postgraduate vocal student at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM).

The Lenore Buckle Music Scholarship

Background:

The scholarship is intended to support a Postgraduate piano and a Postgraduate vocal student at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM).

Open to: Open to full-time local and international undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework & research) students enrolled at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
  Priority may be accorded to different instruments in different years.
  Undergraduate: a minimum ATAR of 90 or equivalent and a minimum audition score of 80 assessed by audition/interview results
  Postgraduate: a Distinction average in a related undergraduate degree, and research achievements/potential.
Value: $6,000 per year
Duration:  Tenable for 1 year only.
