  • APA/UPA: recurring University-wide research scholarships for local students which are usually offered twice a year.
  • Medical Scholarships: recurring scholarships usually offered at least once each year. Closing dates vary.
  • Current research scholarships: one-off scholarships often linked to specific research projects or awards funded by external organisations. Access the Research Scholarships Database and subscribe to the Weekly Research Scholarships Email Bulletin.

  • The 2012 Semester two APA/UPA are now open for applications. Applications close 5pm Tuesday, 12 June 2012. See the APA/UPA page for more information.
  • The 2013 NHMRC postgraduate scholarships are now open for applications. Draft applications must be submitted to the Scholarships Office by 21 June 2012. See the Medical scholarships page for more information.
  • Australia Endeavour Awards are now open for 2013. Applications are submitted online at the DEEWR website. Applications close 30 June 2012. More information can be found here.

Applying for admission into a research degree

Application for admission into a postgraduate research degree is separate to applying for a research scholarship. To apply for a postgraduate research degree at the University of Sydney, go to the Future Students site.

The Research Training Scheme (RTS) provides eligible Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students with an entitlement to be exempt from paying a student contribution. For further information, visit the Research Training Scheme site.

International Students

Scholarships available to international research students are administered by the International Office and include the IPRS and USydIS. For further information please refer to Scholarships for International Students or contact the International Office.
