This scholarship was established to assist indigenous students with their medical studies
Established in 2006 following gifts by Herbert and Valmae Freilich to establish a scholarship to assist indigenous students with their medical studies
Open to:  The scholarship will be awarded to students who identify themselves as indigenous students under the conditions set out by the University's Koori Centre. 
  The scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships. 
Value:  $5000 for 1 year and subject to satisfactory performance.

Gertrude Angel-Lord and Francis Lord Scholarship

Background: Dr Angel-Lord’s enduring gift supports first-year students in financial need who are studying the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).
Open to: The scholarship will be awarded by the Dean of Sydney Medical School to a candidate in his/her first year of study for the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery on the basis of demonstrable financial need. First preference will be given to students in receipt of a means tested Centrelink payment.
  Preference will be given to a student who identifies as Indigenous (Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander), under the conditions set out by the University from time to time  
  The scholarship may not be held in conjunction with other scholarships valued at or above $6,000.  
Value:  The value of the scholarship will be $15,000 per annum. The scholarship shall initially be awarded for one year and, subject to satisfactory performance, and subject to the ongoing approval from Sydney Medical School, shall be renewed annually for the duration of the awardees candidature to a maximum of 4 years. An extension for one year may be considered in the case of documented serious illness or misadventure.

Peter and Susan Davidson Scholarship

Background: This scholarship was established to support in perpetuity scholarships for students within the Sydney Medical School.
  In 2015, Peter Davidson’s gift established The Peter and Suzanne Davidson Scholarship in Medicine in memory of his wife Suzanne to support in perpetuity scholarships for students within the Sydney Medical School.   
  The gift will also be used to support research and children’s health programs within Sydney Medical School. 
Open to:

The scholarship shall be awarded each year to a student at the end of Year 3 of the 4 year medical program (Doctor of Medicine) after a competitive selection process. The scholarship will be awarded in Year 4.

Value:  The scholarship award is $7000 to be used to assist with travel and living expenses related to the general practice placements and also to assist with costs to attend conferences associated with general practice such as the Annual Scientific Convention.

John Flood Memorial Scholarship

Background:

The scholarship is awarded for the best proposal by any student in the Discipline of Pathology to undertake a short period of research (e.g. during an elective term or vacation) in the Discipline of Pathology.

Open to:

1. Applicants must be currently enrolled in the University of Sydney Medical Program, a higher degree by research in the Discipline of Pathology or have met the requirements for award of an Honours degree in the Faculty of Science.

 

 2. Applicants must be willing to undertake a scholarship in the area of neuropathology.

Value: A single payment of $1,700 will be made to the successful applicant on the completion of their project.
