The David & Nhila Dumbrell Scholarship

Background:

This scholarship was established to support piano students studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in financial need.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students (both local and international) enrolled at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
  Scholarship recipients must enrol full-time in the agreed Faculty/degree program during the tenure of their scholarship.

Helpmann Family Fellowship

Background:

Bequeathed in 1987 this fellowship was established to assist opera students to pursue study that is consistent with the development of a career in opera at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

The Kathleen and Allison Short Scholarship

Background:

Bequeathed by The Estate of Allison Louise Larsen to support talented students at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music studying piano, violin, viola or cello who are deemed to be in financial need.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students (both local and international) enrolled at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
  The recipient is to be a talented student of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music who is studying Piano, Violin, Viola or Cello.   
  The recipient is to be deemed to be in financial need.

Background:

Patricia Long Scholarship

Background:

The scholarship is intended to support a student from the Conservatorium High School entering the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM) for tertiary study.

Open to: Open to students from the Conservatorium High School who are enrolling full-time in SCM, and whose financial circumstances are such that without such assistance they would be unable to bear the costs of a University of Sydney education.

Brian Abel Piano Scholarship

Background:

The scholarship is intended to support any piano students at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM) who demonstrate financial need or disadvantage and have lived in Australia for the past 5 years.

Open to: Open to full-time students of Piano who demonstrate financial need or disadvantage.

The William and Marie Souter Encouragement Awards

Background:

The scholarship is intended to support an Australian resident student at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM) with limited financial means.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduates and limited to Australian residents as stipulated by the donor, commencing in the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.
  The scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate academic merit evidenced by a combination of a minimum ATAR of 90 or equivalent and a minimum audition score of 80 assessed by audition/interview results.
  The scholarships include equity criteria and are open to students who have experienced financial or other disadvantage which has had a clear negative impact on their tertiary study
  Need undertaking by recipient that award is used towards payment of either: i) cost of study; ii) fees; iii) instrument purchase; iv) accommodation; or v) travel associated with additional study.

The Kirk Keating Scholarship for Saxophone

Background:

The scholarship is intended to support for one academic year for a first or second year student deemed to be in financial need and unable to afford tuition showing outstanding promise on saxophone.

Open to: Full-time first or second year local undergraduate or postgraduate students.
  Students who show outstanding promise on a Saxophone instrument.
  Candidates should demonstrate academic merit and financial disadvantage.

Merit Scholarships

Doris Burnett Ford Scholarship

Background:

Established in 1994, the Doris Burnett Ford Scholarship was established to assist outstanding students studying musical composition.

This Scholarship was established from the Estate of Joan Scott Cocks in memory of her mother, Doris Burnett Ford.

Open to:

1. This Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full time in a coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.

2. Applicants must be studying musical composition.

3. Applicants must be aged between 20 and 40 years of age.

4. Previous recipients of the Boris Burnett Ford Scholarship are not eligible to receive this Scholarship again.

Background:

Established in 1994, the Helen Myers Scholarship is to assist students to pursue study in singing.

This Scholarship was established from the Estate of Hector McDonald Scott.

1. This Scholarship is offered to female applicants who have an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full time in a coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.

2. Applicants must be studying singing.

Background:

Established in 1971, The Joan and James Armstrong Award is awarded to students to assist them in advancing their studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was established from the Estate of James McIIrath Armstrong.

The Linda Kingsbury Jeffery Scholarship for Singing

Background:

Established in 2008, The Linda Kingsbury Jeffery Scholarship for Singing is to assist outstanding students to undertake studies in singing, preferably a contralto voice at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was established from the Estate of Linda Kingsbury Jeffery.

1. This Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full time in a coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.

Established in 1988, the Donald Lionel Edgerton Scholarship is to assist outstanding students to undertake studies in operatic studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was established from the Estate of Donald Lionel Edgerton.

The Michael Bannigan Scholarship for the Double Bass

Background:

Established in 2003, The Michael Bannigan Scholarship for the Double Bass is to assist outstanding undergraduate students to undertake studies in Double Bass at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was established from the Estate of Michael Lindsay Bannigan.

Open to:

1. This Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full time in an undergraduate degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.

2. Applicants must be studying Double Bass.

Sarah and Murial Jeavons Memorial Scholarship

Background:

Established in 1995, the Sarah and Muriel Jeavons Memorial Scholarship is to assist outstanding female students to undertake studies in Organ at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was donated by Muriel Mahala Jeavons.

Open to:

1. This Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full time in a coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.

2. Applicants must be female.

3. Applicants must be studying Organ.

4. Former recipients of this Scholarship will not be eligible to receive this Scholarship for two consecutive years.

The Olive Margaret Stewart Bequest was established to assist students studying music and voice.

Established in 2008, Corinna D'Hage Mayer String Scholarship is to assist outstanding students to undertake studies in string at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was established from the Estate of Arthur James Mayer.

John and Dorothy Vimpani Pianoforte Fund

Background:

Established in 2008, The John and Dorothy Vimpani Pianoforte Fund is to assist outstanding students to undertake studies in pianoforte at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was established from the Estate of Edward John Roosevelt Vimpani.

Established in 2008, the Scholarship was established from the Estate of Susanna Meller for an outstanding scholar studying the violin at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Patricia Lucas Music Achievement Scholarship

Background:

Established in 2008, the Patricia Lucas Music Achievement Scholarship is to assist outstanding students to undertake studies primarily in singing at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship may also be awarded to a student undertaking studies in oboe, violin, cello or the clarinet if there is not a suitable candidate studying singing.

This Scholarship was donated by Patricia Excell.

Open to:

1. This Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full time in a coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.

2. Applicants must be born in Australia.

3. Applicants must between 20 to 30 years of age.

4. Applicants must be studying in one of the following areas:
    a. Singing,
    b. Oboe,
    c. Violin,
    d. Cello and/or
    e. Clarinet.

5. Applicants must demonstrate their interest in classics and/or opera and have a serious intent to pursue a classical career.

Richard Merewether French Horn Fellowship

Background:

Established in 2007, Richard Merewether French Horn Fellowship is to assist outstanding students to undertake studies in French Horn at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was established by a donation from Mr Edward John Merewether.

Greenberg-Gurney-Jensen Fund

Background:

Established in 2005, Greenberg-Gurney-Jensen Fund is to assist training of outstanding students in Classical Music, including Early Music and Opera studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was established by a donation from Dr Harris Phillip Greenberg.

Open to:

1. This Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full time in a coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.

2. Applicants must be studying Classical Music, including Early Music and Opera studies.

3. Applicants studying Jazz and “popular music” will not be eligible for this Scholarship.

Margaret Henderson Scholarship

Background:

Established in 1993, the Margaret Henderson Scholarship is to assist outstanding students to undertake studies in any of the following disciplines: Brass, Percussion, Jazz, Keyboard, Organ and Church Music, Vocal Studies, Opera, Woodwind, Composition, Music Education and Musicology at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was established by personal donations from Mrs Margaret Henderson. 

Open to:

1. This Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full time in a coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.

2. Applicants must be studying in at least one of the following disciplines: Brass, Percussion, Jazz, Keyboard, Organ and Church Music, Vocal Studies, Opera, Woodwind, Composition, Music Education and Musicology.

3. Applicants who are enrolled in the final two years of their degree will not be eligible for this Scholarship.

The Vasanta Scholarship

Background:

Established in 2011, The Vasanta Scholarship is to assist outstanding students to undertake studies in any of the following disciplines: Violin, Viola, Violoncello, Piano or Organ at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was donated by Marrianne Collinson Close.

Open to:

1. This Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full time in a coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.

2. Applicants must be Australian citizen.

3. Applicants must be studying in at least one of the following disciplines: Violin, Viola, Violoncello, Piano or Organ.

Established in 1965, the Queen Victoria Club Scholarship is to assist outstanding students to undertake studies in any of the following disciplines: cello, violin, and piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This Scholarship was established from the Estate of Richard Sidney Wilson.
