Research Interests

I am a computational evolutionary biologist interested in molecular evolution and phylogenetics. My research areas include molecular clocks, evolutionary rates, phylogenetic methods, calibration techniques, and ancient DNA. Recent projects span a broad range of topics in evolutionary biology and include both theoretical and applied aspects of phylogenetic and molecular evolutionary analysis. Some examples are listed below.

  • Using fossil calibrations in phylogenetic analysis
  • Relaxed-clock models for estimating evolutionary time-scales
  • Estimating evolutionary rates from ancient DNA
  • Phylogenetic analysis of whales, dolphins, and porpoises
  • Evolutionary rates in human mitochondrial DNA
  • Population structure in woolly mammoths
  • Evolutionary time-scale of brown bears
Time-dependent molecular rates
Bovine mitochondrial tree
