Would you have liked more information on careers in chemistry when you were a student?
“The lack of understanding as to the role of chemists indicates that students are not obtaining adequate advice from career advisers or other avenues.” (RACI’s “Future of Chemistry” Report)
It is clear that universities are not providing adequate information to their students about careers in chemistry. This is where we need your help! We would welcome your career profiles, much in the same vein as the Alumni profiles featured on our Chemistry Alumni Careers website. We are looking for a good cross-section of career profiles – at all levels – so please do not dismiss this call for help by thinking that your job would not be of interest to a student. IT WOULD BE!!!
These profiles will also be posted on the Chemistry Alumni Careers website which is linked to our Undergraduate websites. We hope to inspire not only high school students but our current Chemistry undergraduates (years 1 to 3), as well as those who have already graduated with a Chemistry major or have gone on to do either an Honours or PhD degree (or both) within the School.
In addition we will choose various profiles and have them printed as eye-catching posters. These posters will then be displayed outside the RJW Le Fèvre Lecture Theatres within the School of Chemistry for our students to read while they are waiting for lectures to start.
What I need from you.
I need a one page (A4) word document. If you do not have access to a computer then a hard copy is welcomed. If you would like to include a photo of yourself please send it in a JPEG format.
As always we are indebted to our Alumni and we look forward to receiving a variety of profiles that will help our students with their career decisions.
