Congratulations to Professor Michael Kassiou, and his team Dr William Jorgensen, Dr Tristan Reekie and Dr Eryn Werry, who have secured two Commercial Development and Industry Partnerships (CDIP) grants totaling $150K, quarter of the total number awarded. These grants will assist Professor Kassiou with the commercialisation of his research projects on the discovery of small molecules for the treatment of substance use and other psychiatric disorders. This has also attracted external investment leading to the formation of a spin-off company to progress to first-in-human studies.

Professor Kassiou and his team are interested in all stages of CNS drug discovery from target identification, lead optimization, cellular pharmacology and phenotypic screening. Through this approach, we expect to gain a better understanding of how oxytocinergic signalling effects several brain disorders, therefore leading to novel therapies.
