What type of Samples can be analysed
All types of samples can be investigated using these techniques including: liquids, powders, solids, gases, thin films. Samples can be analysed in cuvettes, capillary tubes, and many samples can be examined in their natural state e.g., proteins in solution. Other advantages include: minimal sample size, little to no sample preparation, high reproducibility and rapid sample throughput.
A wide range of samples have been studied at the Vibrational Spectroscopy Facility. Some examples are:
- micro-organisms
- biological tissues
- fullerenes and their derivatives
- contact lenses
- carbon films
- teeth and bone
- wheat
- polymers
- minerals
