The Chemistry School is actively committed to maintaining and expanding its links with High School and TAFE teachers throughout New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory. Dr Jeanette Hurst is in charge of coordinating and expanding the ways we can be of assistance to school teachers.

These include:

  • High School Kickstart Chemistry Workshops
  • Workshops for chemistry teachers
  • Chemical questions
  • School visit by a staff member

Workshops run from June to the school holidays in July. A calendar of current Chemistry Kickstart Workshop bookings can be found at the bottom of the page. For email enquiries contact .

Chemical monitoring and management

In these workshops we do experiments from the Chemical Monitoring and Management topic. There is also a choice of some experiments from the optional topics:

  • Industrial chemistry
  • Forensic chemistry
  • Shipwrecks, corrosion and salvation

The students participate in a series of hands-on experiments and instrumental demonstrations.

Each year we have been running these for about 100 schools (1500 students).

The workshop takes approximately 2 hours. The cost is $27.00 (plus GST) per student. We have a minimum of 15 students per session and a maximum of 40.

The hazard assessment sheets for all the experiments can be found here.
