Postgraduate Research Scholarships

Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA)

Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional research potential to undertake a higher degree by research at an Australian university. The scholarships are provided to assist with general living costs.

University of Sydney Postgraduate Awards (UPA)

University of Sydney Postgraduate Awards (UPA) are similar to APA in terms of tenure and benefits. Eligible APA applicants are automatically considered for these awards. Some faculties and departments also offer postgraduate research scholarships and/or supplementary scholarships. APA/UPA applicants may also be considered for these awards where funding is available.

Vice-Chancellor’s Research Scholarships (VCRS)

The Vice-Chancellor’s Research Scholarships (VCRS) are offered to attract students with an outstanding track record of academic achievement and research potential to pursue full-time PhD study at the University of Sydney. Up to 15 VCRS will be awarded every year. A separate application for the VCRS is not required and highly ranked applicants for the APA or UPA will be automatically considered.

University of Sydney World Scholars Awards

The University of Sydney World Scholars awards provide opportunities for academically gifted international PhD students who have developed innovative research projects to undertake a PhD degree at the University of Sydney with financial support. Applications for this award can ONLY be made once the candidate has received a FIRM OFFER of admission to a PhD degree. More information about the World Scholars Awards.

Endeavour Awards

The Endeavour Awards program is administered by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DWEER) and provides opportunities for study, research and professional development abroad.
