What is the Bachelor of Advanced Studies?

Taken in combination with a three-year degree, the Bachelor of Advanced Studies supercharges your undergraduate experience.

By opting for the combined Bachelor of Advanced Studies, you will have the opportunity to:

  • design your own degree by combining studies from a range of disciplines
  • build on your expertise with advanced coursework and project work
  • complete a second major (see the shared pool of majors list).

Courses

What is an undergraduate degree?

An undergraduate degree, or bachelor degree, is the first degree you obtain at university. If you have just completed high school, or have never graduated from university before, then an undergraduate course is for you. Faculty of Science offers:

 

 

 


Majors

A major is a specialisation in a chosen area of study and is designed to develop your knowledge and skills in a particular area.

These are the areas of specialisation available in the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Advanced Studies:

These are additional science majors** available in the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science and Bachelor of Psychology:


**You may choose an Arts or Science major, and as sequence in Science (if Arts major) or in Arts (in science major). For more information about Arts majors, please visit the faculty website.

Programs

Programs are combinations of units of study that develop expertise in a multi-disciplinary domain or professional or specialist field and includes at least one recognised major. They include some embedded major and additional units of study.

Within the Bachelor of Science, you can complete the following programs:

  • Agroecosystems 
    Embedded major options: Animal Production, Plant Production, Soil Science and Hydrology.
  • Medical Science (only available in Medical Science stream) 
  • Environmental Science 
    Embedded major is: Environmental Science
  • Neuroscience 
    Embedded major is: Neuroscience
  • Psychology 
    Embedded major is: Behavioural Sciences
  • Mathematical Science (only available in Dalyell stream)
    Embedded major options: Financial Mathematics and Statistics, Mathematics, Statistics 

Within the Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Advanced, you can complete the following programs:

  • Agriculture (only available in Agriculture stream) 
    Embedded major options: Animal Production, Plant Production, Soil Science and Hydrology.
  • Agroecosystems 
    Embedded major options: Animal Production, Plant Production, Soil Science and Hydrology.
  • Food and Agribusiness (only available in Food and Agribusiness stream) 
    Embedded major options: Food Science and one of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Accounting, Banking, Business Analytics, Business Information Systems, Business Law, Economics, Economic Policy, Finance, Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management, International Business, Management, Marketing
  • Animal and Veterinary Bioscience (only available in Animal and Veterinary Bioscience stream) 
    Embedded major: Animal Veterinary Bioscience.
  • Medical Science (only available in Medical Science stream) 
  • Environmental Science 
    Embedded major is: Environmental Science
  • Nanoscience and Nanotechnology 
    Embedded major options: Chemistry, Physics
  • Neuroscience 
    Embedded major is: Neuroscience
  • Psychology 
    Embedded major is: Behavioural Sciences
  • Mathematical Science (only available in Dalyell stream)
