Non-Degree Study - Undergraduate and Postgraduate

Non-degree students pay full tuition fees to undertake a unit of study (subject) offered in the Faculty of Science without being enrolled in an award course (degree). Non-degree students take the unit of study with award course students and are assessed at the same level.

There are three stages to applying for non-degree study:

  • Information gathering - read about fees, application and identify the units of study that you wish to take
  • Application - please note, late or incomplete applications are not accepted
  • Enrolment - accepting your offer for study; you come to the university and enrol in person

General Information

Before applying for non-degree study, have a look at the Science Handbook or Departmental/School websites to identify the units of study in which you would like to enrol.

You need to be able to meet the same prerequisites as students enrolled in an award course at the University of Sydney (or have completed equivalent units of study at another institution) to be able to enrol in any particular unit of study.

Postgraduate non-degree study is for subjects with course code 4XXX or higher. If you are applying for subjects with course code 3XXX or lower please apply for Undergraduate non-degree study.

You should only enrol in postgraduate non-degree study if the subjects you wish to study are at postgraduate level (ie. 4XXX level or higher).

Please note, postgraduate non-degree study is advisable only after consultation with the unit coordinator.

If your application is approved, you will be advised about enrolment procedures by email to the email address provided on your application form.

You will need to come to the Faculty of Science Office in person to enrol.
