Research Interests
Maria is a Australian Postdoctoral Fellow in the EarthByte Group, School of Geosciences. Her currently funded research aims to develop a "Subduction Reference Framework" in order to better constrain the position and motion of tectonic plates from the Mesozoic to the present day. Maria's research interests are in the field of marine geophysics and geodynamics, in particular examining the links between plate tectonic and mantle processes. She is also interested in the kinematic controls on subduction and back-arc basin formation and the relationship between tectonics and palaeo-climate and tectonics and ore-deposit formation. Maria completed her PhD at the University of Sydney in 2005 on the mechanisms behind back-arc basin formation.
