Daniela Helbig’s main area of research is the history and mostly continental philosophy of “techno-science”: what does the merging of the modern institutionalized sciences and industrial-scale technical production mean not just inside, but outside of lab and academy?
She also has a keen interest in linguistics and the theory and practice of translation, and in questions of science in cross-cultural contexts, especially in the modern Middle East.

Current Projects

“The Known and the Lived: Melitta Schiller-Stauffenberg, 1903-1945.” A book-length study of the changing nature of experiment and experience within German aviation science during the transition from the Weimar republic into the Nazi years. It investigates the textual theorization and simultaneous practical constitution of techno-scientific ‘experience’ in connection with the life of the test pilot and physicist Melitta Schiller-Stauffenberg.
