Talented Student Program

Are you a bright high-achiever looking for an accelerated start in research in the life and environmental sciences?

As a Talented Student, you will be offered special project work that introduces you to research activities supervised by academic staff. This will broaden your knowledge of the life and environmental sciences, giving you insight into how scientists think and how real research projects are tackled. Please contact the Talented Student Program (TSP) coordinators Dr Hannah Nicholas, Associate Professor Dieter Hochuli or Professor Balwant Singh to register your interest.

Simon Ho

"My experience in the Talented Student Program was extremely rewarding. I was given the opportunity to conduct independent research projects, supervised by academics in the School. My projects exposed me to research questions and methods that were beyond the scope of the standard curriculum."

SOLES Postgraduate Society

SOLES Postgraduate Society (SPS) is the official representative and social postgraduate society for the School of Life and Environmental Sciences. All postgraduate students in SOLES are automatically members of SPS and you do not need to join.

Our primary aim is to build a sense of community among postgrads through social functions, workshops, sport, and other events. There are several small events held at specific precincts, as well as larger ones targeted at the whole school, however all of SOLES (in fact, anyone!) is welcome at any event. Our headline event is the annual SOLES Ball at the end of the year.
Are you organising an event for postgraduates within SOLES? Let us know! SPS can provide assistance, publicity, and funding.

As your official postgraduate representatives, we also meet regularly with the School’s Postgraduate Research Education Committee (PREC) and can bring up any issues you may have with them. The Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association (SUPRA) , provides assistance for other academic or personal issues.

Because SOLES is large and spread out, SPS is divided into smaller groups that each represent a location, or 'precinct'. Your 2018 representatives for each precinct are:

  • SPS@Science Road -
  • SPS@Gunn -
  • SPS@CPC -
  • SPS@ATP -
  • SPS@Camden & rural locations -
  • SPS@GO8 -

Keep in touch and up to date with SPS events through our Facebook group, via email or contact your local representative.
