SPG Lorne Proteins Satellite Talks at UTS
This will be the first SPG event to be held at UTS University of Technology Sydney in recent years and will be hosted by Dr Iain Duggin. Many thanks to Iain for hosting 2 excellent speakers: Prof Jakob Moller-Jensen from the University of Southern Denmark (title: "Uncovering protein glycosylation in bacteria") and Prof Jan Lowe from the MRC in Cambridge (title: "Filaments of the bacterial cytoskeleton"). Iain has also organised a tour of the UTS microscope facility and the 3D-SIM super-resolution microscope following afternoon tea. SPG Special Semiar at USYD
Prof Tom Muir (Princeton) will be giving a special seminar on Wednesday 19th February at 12 noon in Chemistry Lecture Theatre 2, School of Chemistry (Building F11 on Eastern Ave Main Campus), University of Sydney. His talk will be entitled "Ultra-fast Inteins: From Discovery to Applications". This will be a different topic to his talk at Lorne Proteins, and is just one of the areas in chemical biology that he works on. Theano Stafidas of ATA Scientific will be hosting a series of presentations focused on “Static Light Scattering technologies for multi detection SEC/GPC” from 13-18th February 2014. International guest speaker and specialist Dr Michael Caves of Malvern Instruments will be presenting the talk at venues following the Lorne Proteins conference in Feb. Thompson Prize evening 2013 was a great success!
The Thompson Prize Night (sponsored by Biorad and ATA Scientific) was held on Thursday, 28th of November, 2013 at the Centenary Institute, hosted by Josep Font. The annual Thompson Prize is an award for the best student presentation at the Thompson Prize evening and comes with a cheque for $600. Crystal 29 Conference
Registration is now open for the Crystal 29 conference which will take place between 22nd of April, 2014 and 25th of April, 2014 at the O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat, Queensland. There will be an excellent plenary speaker, Prof Petra Fromme, (University of Arizona, USA) who will talk about 'Femtosecond Nanocrystallography'. Keynote speaker include Andrew Goodwin (Oxford University, UK) 'Crystallography without crystals: Order within disorder', Alice Vrielink (University of Western Australia, WA) 'Membrane protein enzyme structure' and Vic Arcus (University of Waikato, NZ) 'Crystallography and Climate Change: The temperature-dependence of biological rates'.
