The Sydney Protein Group

The Sydney Protein Group is made up of protein scientists and students from academia, hospitals and industry.

We meet regularly to hear updates from local and overseas speakers on the latest developments in protein science and related fields.

Scholarships and prizes are also provided to enable young scientists to attend key protein related meetings in Australia.

SPG sponsored speaking slot at ComBio2016
As part of our ongoing commitment to support emerging protein researchers, along with the Combio organising committee, a guaranteed speaking slot at ComBio2016 has been made available. This SPG award will include a guaranteed speaking slot along with a monetary prize to assist in the cost of attending ComBio2016. This award is specifically targeted at post-docs up to 5 years since the award of their PhD (taking into account any career interruptions). To be considered for this SPG-sponsored ECR Award, please submit (i) a 250 word abstract, (ii) a 1-2 page (maximum) CV and (iii) a short statement as to why your talk/subject is interesting and why you should be chosen for the award (no more than 100 words). All abstracts and CVs MUST BE emailed as a single .rtf or .pdf file, along with contact details in the body of the email, to sydneyproteingroup at gmail com. 2016 FBDD Down Under conference
The 2016 FBDD Down Under conference brings together biologists, biochemists and chemists from academia and industry. If you would like to hear about the latest techniques and progress in the dynamic and exciting area of fragment-based drug discovery or would like to share your exciting story on a related project, this is a conference not to be missed. Protein Purification Seminar at USYD
There will be a seminar organised by Bio-Rad about 'Developments in Protein Purification Application and Chemistries' at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SoLES) (former SMB) on the 16th of May between 2-3pm. For more details (flyer) please go here. [Posted 6th May, 2016]

Thompson Prize Night 2015 was held at The Garvan Institute of Medical Research
Some of the SPG's best work was again showcased at the annual Thompson Prize Night! This year's event was held at the Garvan on Thursday the 26th of November, kindly hosted by Mary Christie. In addition to the Thompson Prize, we have also awarded the Lorne Travel Awards, which help students to attend the Lorne Protein or Proteomics conference. For more details please go here. SPG has appointed new secretary
SPG has appointed Jason Low from the University of Sydney as the new secretary as Dr Chu-Kong Liew is resigning from this position by the end of this year. We thank Chu-Kong for his extensive contributions that he has made over many years! [Posted 30th November, 2015]

East Coast Protein Meeting 2015 (ECPM15) was a major success !
