How do get to the University of Sydney?

What time do I arrive each day?

Workshops begin at 8:30 am on the first day and 9:00 am each other day.

Staff will be present to greet, register and supervise students from 8:00 on Tuesday and from 8:30 on Wednesday and Thursday.

What time can I leave each day?

Workshops finish at 3:30 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and 4:30 pm on Thursday.

Where do I get dropped off and picked up from each day?

Students should meet at the Carslaw Building, which is located on Eastern Ave, the University of Sydney. Eastern Ave is closest to the City Road Gate entrance to the university grounds.

Students can arrange to meet their parents or guardians here at the end of each day. The closest parking area is the New Law Carpark accessed via Barff Road.

If you are catching public transport there are major bus stops on City Road close to Eastern Ave.

What if I am catching a train?

The closest train station to the University of Sydney is Redfern Station. If you are catching the train to this station it is a good idea to contact so that our volunteers can greet you at the station each morning.

You should take the LAWSON STREET exit and travel along Lawson Street until you come to the lights. Turn left at the lights onto Abercrombie Street, then right onto Butlin Avenue. Continue on until you come to City Road, cross City Road and enter the City Road gates to the University of Sydney.

Or

Exit at Lawson Street, travel along Abercrombie Street, onto Raglan Street, through the University of Sydney and over the City Road overbridge onto Eastern Ave.

If you are catching a train to Central, it is about a 15-minute walk from Central Station to the University of Sydney. You can alternatively catch a bus from Central Station to the City Road Gates (Stand D, Railway Square).

What bus can I catch from the City to the University of Sydney?

Buses to City Road for the City (Loftus Street or Railway Square): 422, 423 (Circular Quay) 426, 428.

Buses to Parramatta Road for the City (Town Hall): 412, 413, 461, 480, 483 (Circular Quay) 436, 437, 438, 440.

These are just a few of the bus services available.

Can my parents park on campus?

It is advisable that parents do not park on campus, as it can be costly. If they do park they will need to purchase a parking ticket from the vending machine and place it in their car. The closest parking area is the New Law Carpark, but this is only available for casual parking after 3pm. Shepherd St Carpark next to the Seymour Centre is available for casual parking at all times. What if I arrive late to the workshop?

Don’t stress, we understand that Sydney traffic can be terrible so if you think you are going to be late contact , otherwise once you arrive at the University of Sydney, wait at the designated, signposted area, and call Charlotte on 0421 363 219, and someone will come and take you to the relevant room.

What if I need to leave early?

A roll is taken each day, as we need to know your whereabouts whilst you are in our duty of care. It’s important that we know you are and that you are safe at all times. If you need to leave early come and speak to us on the morning you need to leave and we will alert your workshop co-ordinator.

Can I leave the grounds during lunch breaks?

Students are not permitted to leave the University of Sydney grounds during lunch times.

What should I wear to the workshops?

Since much of your time will be spent in laboratories, it is important that students wear suitable clothing – preferably cotton clothing and closed toed shoes at all times.

What should I bring?

Pen, pencil, eraser, note pad and a calculator.

Lunch

Please bring your own lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday. While there are facilities on campus to buy food, it is preferable that you bring your own lunch to the University. Lunch will be provided on Thursday.
