We are excited to be offering the highly successful Science Teachers’ Workshop again this year which will run across multiple science disciplines over a one-week period. These professional development courses are suitable for high school science teachers of all levels – whether you’re just starting out, teaching in a new area, or have years of experience – our program has something for you.

Agriculture
Completing the 2016 Science Teachers’ Workshop – Agriculture will contribute 5.5hrs of QTC registered PD addressing 1.5.2, 2.1.2, 2.2.2, 2.6.2, 6.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

Biology
Completing the 2016 Science Teachers’ Workshop – Biology will contribute 5hrs of QTC registered PD addressing 2.1.2, 3.4.2, 6.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

Physics
Completing the 2016 Science Teachers’ Workshop – Physics (2-day workshop) will contribute 5hrs per day of QTC registered PD addressing 1.2.2, 2.1.2, 3.4.2, 6.3.2, 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

Upon completing your registration details, you will be able to either pay online with a credit card or print the tax invoice for your school to process.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO ATTEND

Applications for financial assistance for the 2016 workshop are now closed.
You will be notified of the outcome of your application by Friday October 28, 2016.


The Faculty of Science is delighted to be able to offer a limited amount of financial assistance to eligible teachers who wish to attend the Science Teachers' Workshop in 2016.

The assistance has been awarded as part of the Social Inclusion strategy of the University of Sydney and via the Faculty of Science.

The financial assistance package has been developed to ensure that eligible teachers are supported and given opportunities to access teaching support and professional development regardless of the school’s financial or geographical disadvantage.

Who can apply?

Teachers applying for financial assistance must be:

  • Currently teaching in a NSW government identified Low Socio-Economic Status (LSES) high school
  • Currently teaching at HSC level in a relevant discipline i.e. biology, chemistry, physics, geography, earth and environmental science or agriculture
  • Able to attend the Science Teachers’ Workshop in November 2016

How do I apply?

If you would like to apply for the Financial Assistance package please follow the below steps:

  1. Register for the Science Teachers' Workshop using the above registration link. Follow the registration process until you reach the payment gateway. Once you reach this page, please record your Invoice Number and close your browser.
  2. Once you have registered, please email and quote the following information

(a) Invoice Number
(b) Name
(c) School
(d) Area (Major city, Inner regional/Outer regional, Remote/very remote)

Assessment

All complete applications will be considered and the level of financial disadvantage assessed depending on your school’s geographical status. Those applicants who are not awarded the financial assistance package are still able to register for the STW as normal but must find alternative funds to cover the cost of attendance e.g. from their school.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Financial assistance package will be given to your school. It is up to the school and individual teachers to arrange the split of funds.
  2. To assist the University of Sydney with it’s programs, successful applicants will be required to complete some pre-event and post-event feedback.

If you are not able to attend for unforeseen circumstances, your registration may be transferred to an alternative teacher from your school. You must notify us in writing not later than 2 weeks before the Workshop.
