Research interests

Dr Lampit leads a clinical research program aiming to enhance cognitive and everyday performance across the lifespan in healthy people as well as those with brain disorders. The program focuses on three keys themes:

Cognitive training. Dr Lampit is an international expert in designing cognitive training interventions and evaluating outcomes. Over the past decade he has been involved in more than a dozen clinical trials and implementation projects, and published extensively in this field. Most recently, he designed the cognitive training intervention of the Maintain Your Brain Trial – a $6.5m NHMRC-funded trial of lifestyle interventions to prevent dementia in 18,000 older adults.

Indoor spatial tracking for behavioural assessment. Along with fellow computer scientists and industry collaborators, Dr Lampit develops systems for objective tracking of indoor movement while maintaining individual privacy. These will detect behavioural markers that could assist in evaluating functional changes in people with brain disorders (such as dementia and depression), along the time course of the disease or in response to interventions.

Meta-analysis. Dr Lampit is an expert in research synthesis of interventions in psychiatry, psychology and neurology, which typically include complex data structures such as multiple endpoints, interventions or outcome measures. He has collaborated locally and internationally on dozens of meta-analyses as well as on methods development, and serves as on the editorial board of the journal Neuropsychology Review as a methods expert.
