Thesis title: Using a Facebook intervention to improve calcium consumption among young adults

Supervisors: Margaret ALLMAN-FARINELLI , Fiona O'LEARY

Thesis abstract:

Calcium intake is low in the Australian population, particularly in adolescents as they transition into adulthood. Dairy is considered to be the best source of calcium which is an essential nutrient for reaching peak bone mass. It has also been associated with reducing the risk of osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome and other chronic diseases. However, it has been thought that young adults are typically not concerned about health problems that are distal in nature. Electronic technology has become very popular and has gained the attention of younger audience through elements that use communication and gamification. The overall aim of this project is to develop an intervention that will be appealing and tailored for young adults that can improve intake of calcium.
