Biographical details

Chunle Xiong received his Bachelor and Master's degrees in Physics from Peking University, China. He joined the Centre for Photonics & Photonic Materials (CPPM) at the University of Bath, UK for his PhD study in 2005 and received PhD in 2008. During his PhD, he has been working on supercontinuum generation in Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCFs), four-wave mixing (FWM) and applications to PCF based single-photon source and optical parametric oscillator. Those work included nonlinear PCF design, fabrication, dispersion management and birefringent PCF design, fabrication and simulation as well as nonlinear experiments. In 2008, he joined CUDOS as a postdoctoral fellow and started to work on nonlinear photonics in chalcogenide nano-tapers and waveguides. These included characterization of chalcogenide glass using nonlinear pulse propagation, photonic-chip-based analog-to-digital conversion and pulse erasure, and on-chip correlated photon-pair source for integrated quantum technologies. In 2011, Chunle was promoted to a research fellow and appointed as the project leader of a CUDOS flagship project - quantum integrated photonics. As a project leader, he works with the project science leader to define the long-term project science goals and formulate the short-term project milestones, and coordinate the research activities of several groups within CUDOS. In late 2011, Chunle was funded a fellowship by the Australian Research Council under the Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme. The fellowship allows him to work on a three-year project, "quantum entanglement using slow-light-enhanced nonlinearity."
