Biographical details

David Marpaung received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Twente, the Netherlands in 2009. From 2009 to 2012 David was a postdoctoral researcher in the University of Twente within the framework of the European Commission FP7 funded project SANDRA. He was leading the research activities on microwave photonic system integration for a large scale photonic beamformer in a phased array antenna system for satellite communications. David joined CUDOS University of Sydney in August 2012 as a research fellow working on photonic chip based nonlinear signal processing for optical and microwave communications. David is a reviewer for several journals including Science, Optics Express, Optics Letters, Optica, and Scientific Reports. He has been an invited speaker in various international conferences, including IEEE Photonics Conference 2012, IEEE Microwave Photonics conference 2013, and Photonics North 2014. He is a co-organizer of the 'Integrated Microwave Photonics' workshop at the 2014 Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium (PIERS), Guangzhou.

David is a recipinet of ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) 2015.

Research interests

Dr. Marpaung is a pioneer in the field of integrated microwave photonics. His reseach interests spans from integrated optics, nonlinear optics, and optical signal processing to microwave engineering and antennas.
