Biographical details

Xiao (Demi) Gao received the degree of Bachelor in Computer Science and a Master in Biology in China. She received her Ph.D in Information Technology from the University of South Australia in 2016. Currently, Demi works at the School of Physics, the University of Sydney as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Her main research interests are in the fields of computational neuroscience and neural engineering, including brain connectivity and brain dynamics, neural signal processing, artificial neural networks and machine learning for biomedical applications.

Demi Gao was the 2013 winner of the University of South Australia 3 Minute Thesis competition, and progressed to the final 8 at the 2013 Australia-New Zealand final. Demi was awarded the Best Student Oral Presentation Prize at the 7th Australian Workshop on Computational Neuroscience, Adelaide, Australia, 2014. In the same year, she was also awarded the Women in Engineering paper prize in the IEEE Australia Council Postgraduate Student Paper Competition. Demi was a recipient of IEEE South Australia Section Student Travel Award in 2015.
