Biographical details

Fiona O’Leary is a Senior Lecturer (part time) in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Sydney. She is a qualified Dietitian - Nutritionist with extensive experience in the hospital, aged care and private practice sectors. She was awarded her PhD in 2012.

Research interests

Research interests are related to dietary intake, nutritional status, malnutrition and disease risk, and research translation, in underprivileged population groups across the life course, specifically children and older people.

Teaching and supervision

Fiona is the course co-ordinator and senior lecturer for the Dietetic Professional Studies course (part time) and lecturer for the Medical Nutrition Therapy course components for the Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics degree, University of Sydney.

1. Maintain your Brain. A randomised controlled multi -interventional dementia prevention study; NHMRC funded trial; Associate investigator.

2. Secondary analysis of the Australian National Nutrition Survey to determine dietary patterns of older Australians.

3. Dietary protein supplementation in chronic obstructive airways disease pilot study.

4. Strengthening food and nutrition security through family poultry and crop integration in Tanzania and Zambia, a food security initiative aiming to improve household nutrition and reduce childhood malnutrition.
