Biographical details

I am currently a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology. I received my PhD in 2004 from the University of New South Wales and became a lecturer at the University of Sydney in 2005.

Research interests

My research examines the nature, causes and consequences of ostracism - the act of being excluded and ignored. I have always been fascinated by the silent treatment - how not speaking to someone and ignoring their existence can be even more aversive than insulting them or abusing them in other ways.

My research has examined instances of ostracism in the real worldthrough structured interviews with those who give and receive long-term ostracism. I have also explored the effects of ostracism amongst different populations (children, adolescents, and adults).

Currently, my research focuses on determining new ways of exploring ostracism within the lab and developing new methods to ameliorate the aversive consequences of being ostracised in real-world contexts
