Biographical details

Dr Mario Fajardo is a Post-Doctoral research fellow at the Precision Agriculture Laboratory of the University of Sydney. He joined the lab in 2016 and is currently working in modelling yield responses using sensing technologies and satellite information.

Before that, Mario completed his Ph.D. in Agriculture at the University of Sydney under the supervision of Professor Alex McBratney and Associate Professor Brett Whelan. His work involved various multivariate approaches for describing soil variation, including the use of spectrometry, clustering, modelling, image recognition and software developing among others.

Research interests

I am especially interested in trying to explain in a quantitative way, how soil behaves in space and time. Accordingly, my areas of expertise are in constant evolution, some of them are:

  • Modelling of soil properties using spectroscopic information
  • Creation of a new methodology based on image recognition in Android platform to measure soil aggregate stability. Currently available in Google Play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=slaker.sydneyuni.au.com.slaker
  • To map Pedodiversity and Microbial diversity relationships using next generation DNA sequencing and pedometrics and multivariate approaches.
