Biographical details

Olivia completed a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience (Honours 1) in 2011. As part of her undergraduate degree she completed an Honours project in the field of Aquaculture nutrition, investigating the use of digestibility markers in studies of juvenile Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).
Olivia’s research interests are focused on Aquaculture production and Aquatic animal health, particularly with regards to host, pathogen, and environment interactions. Olivia applied for a competitive scholarship to work on Ostreid herpesvirus-1, also known as Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome (POMS) in Australia, and commenced her PhD in July 2012, supervised by Professor Richard Whittington. Her thesis, which was completed in 2016, focused on the ‘Transmission of Ostreid herpesvirus-1 (OsHV-1) in the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas)’.
Olivia is now a Postdoctoral Researcher within the Farm Animal and Veterinary Public Health group based out at Camden. Her current work is a continuation of the research conducted during her PhD, focusing on the transmission, detection and distribution of Ostreid herpesvirus-1 in the estuarine environment.
