Thesis title: Effects of climate change and soil management on water and nutrient uptake for sustainable yield of wheat genotypes with different root traits

Thesis abstract:

Genetic (G) × Environment (E) interactions are described as the association between the environment and the phenotypic expression of a genotype. For agricultural plants, the most common trait routinely targeted using the G × E approach is yield, but other examples have been reported for other traits including grain quality, and biomass production. Many studies have reported on genotype × environment (G × E) interactions for yield or components of yield, but only a few studies have attempted to explore the significant role of rhizosphere effects on nutrient and water acquisition. So, in this study we want to answer the following questions : (1) How does variation in water availability with soil depth affect water and nutrient uptake for wheat genotypes with variable root architecture and rooting depth and (2) How do environmental effects including temperature, fertilization and crop rotation affect water and nutrient use efficiency for wheat genotypes with variable root architecture and rooting depth.
