Thesis title: Ideological symmetry in intergroup prejudice towards threatening and competitive outgroups

Supervisors: Fiona WHITE , Karen GONSALKORALE

Thesis abstract:

Decades of research in social and political psychology has consistently demonstrated that, compared to liberals, conservatives are more prejudiced and politically intolerant towards a variety of target groups. The current thesis challenges this well-established finding by providing evidence for an ideological symmetry in intergroup prejudice, which suggests that liberals and conservatives are equally prejudiced towards ideologically threatening and competitive outgroups.
