Biographical details

I am a lecturer in Geophysics at the School of Geosciences, University of Sydney. My research fields are in computational geosciences with application areas in sediment transport dynamics, Earth surface evolution, and deep time interactions between climate, ocean & geomorphology.

I am an expert in quantitative methods based on forward modelling, data query, transformation & visualisation, algorithm design, and parallelism.

Research interests

My work focuses on Earth surface processes and their interactions with the lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere. I'm currently working on several research questions that integrate my interests in sediment transport, landscape development, carbonate platform evolution and tectonic geomorphology.

Badlands

focus: Landscape evolution, tectonic geomorphology, numerical simulation of landform development, sediment transport and basin formation

Basin andLandscape Dynamics(aka Badlands) is an open-source parallel TIN-based landscape evolution model, built to simulate topography development at various space and time scales. The model is capable of simulating hillslope processes, fluvial incision, spatially and temporally varying geodynamic and climatic forces which can be used to simulate changes in base level, as well as effects of climate changes or sea-level fluctuations. The model uses gFlexpackage which is designed to solve elastic plate flexure for applications to Earth's lithosphere.

pyReef

focus: numerical model of carbonate platform development under changing climatic conditions, 3D stratigraphic geometries and facies simulation

pyReefis a stratigraphic forward model that predicts reef evolution over geological time scale. This parallel, open-source model uses swan(wave generation model) to simulate wave propagation under different climatic conditions and associated sediment transport. Multiple carbonate facies are simulated using a set of fuzzy logicrules which are based on wave energy, sedimentation and depth as well as tectonic and oceanic forcings (ocean temperature and salinity, eustasy).

This work is conducted within theGeoscoastalGroup and relies on the group extensive dataset obtained atOne Tree Reef(Great Barrier Reef).
