Biographical details

I was trained in agricultural economics and rural development and received my Ph D in Rural Development from the Universiyt of Kobe in 2004. My most important scholarly contribution has been on land use and livelihood change, natural resource management and food security in mainland Southeast Asia, particularly Laos.

Research interests

My main research interest is on land use dynamics and rural livelihood change in Southeast Asia. I have over a decade of experience conducting interdisciplinary research in mainland Southeast Asia focusing on land uses change and natural resource management. Among the key research projects that I have been involved in the past include, research capacity building project at the National University of Laos funded by the International Development Research Centre of Canada, which focused on community-based natural resource management in Laos. I have also led a study on land use and livleihood changes in northern Laos near the borders of China and Myanmmar funded by the Committe for International Cooperation in National Research in Demography (CICRED, France). This research was carried out in conjunction with regional research project in mainland Southeast Asia led by East West Center in Hawai'i, which was funded by the National Science Foundation and focused on the land use dynamics in the Golden Triangle.

Current projects

Facilitating Livelihood Adaptation under Natural Resource Pressure in Lao People's Democratic Republic (funded by the Australian Centre for International Agriculture).
