Course outcomes
These courses will provide you with a professional level of education in optics and photonics with training applicable to employment in communications, optical and scientific instruments and optical techniques in biology and medical applications. The courses are suitable both for those training for senior positions in optical industries or as preparation for a PhD.
You will graduate with a strong mix of high level conceptual understanding and practical training and on completion you have a number of options:
- Apply your technical skills in a senior engineering or business role in telecommunications, scientific instrumentation, equipment manufacturing, mineral exploration, defence - any company whose products and services are based on high tech optical equipment or components, vision systems or image analysis.
- Join a research team in organisations like CSIRO, DSTO or ANSTO.
- Use your degree as a pathway to entry into the Schools PhD program, leading to a career as a research scientist (entrance criteria apply; please contact us for details).
If you achieve sufficiently high grades in your Master course, you may be interested in undertaking a research-only PhD program.
