ISS2017: Future Power
Applications for ISS2017 have now closed --- good luck to everyone who applied. We will be contacting all applicants in mid-to-late April with the results of the selection process, so keep an eye on your email inbox!
The next Professor Harry Messel International Science School (ISS) will be held at the University of Sydney from Sunday 2 July to Saturday 15 July 2017. Every ISS has a theme around which we set our program of talks and activities the theme for the ISS2017 is Future Power: The Energy Challenges, Opportunities and Solutions Ahead.
ISS2017 will be unlike another other experience you've had. You'll meet and learn from inspiring scientists about cutting-edge research, experience university life in the research and teaching labs and lecture theatres of the University of Sydney, and get to know a crowd of other science-mad students from all over the world: China, India, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, Thailand, the UK and the USA.
During ISS2017 all 140 students, along with our volunteer staff, will live for the two weeks at Kincoppal Rose Bay (KRB) School, a boarding school on the edge of stunning Sydney Harbour. Each day we will travel across to the University of Sydney for scientific talks, lab tours, experiments and other hands-on activities.
Evenings and weekends there's plenty to keep you busy: trivia competitions and movie nights, a harbour cruise, the ISS Gala Reception, the infamous Talent Night, bush walks, city tours ...
You'll be well looked after. We have a dozen staff, all university students who have all been through the ISS program at least once before, as well as two House Parents their job is to help us make sure everyone is safe and having a good time.
When the two weeks are up ... well, chances are you're not going to want to leave!
"The ISS was a life‐changing experience that has
motivated me to achieve my dreams in the future."
