Summer School
The School of Psychology offers PSYC1001 and PSYC1002 in the University's intensive Summer School session from January to February. Students have the opportunity to accelerate their program, catch up a failed subject or study subjects outside their current program.
Currently enrolled students must read and familiarise themselves with the Administrative Guidelines and Syllabus - see below.

The class times for my psychology subject in summer school clash with another subject I am enrolled in. What can I do?
Students are expected to attend 80% of all timetabled activities. It is our view that students who attend less than 80% will struggle greatly to pass. Poor attendance cannot form the basis of a special consideration claim. In the 2011 Online Faculty of Science handbook it states: The Dean or the Head of School most concerned may determine that a student has failed a unit of study because of inadequate attendance.
Due to the relatively small number of students in Summer School, it is not possible to offer “repeats” of classes.
The School of Psychology discourages students from taking subjects that have timetable clashes, because we want students to do their best in the courses and also because it is not possible to change class times to suit individual students with clashes. We recommend that you discontinue from one of the subjects so as to maximise your learning experience in Summer School.

Which tutorial am I in?
We will advise you about your tutorial at the first lecture.
Why can't I log on to SONA?
As enrolments in Summer School are still being processed, students will not be able to access SONA before the official start of Summer School - 5 January, 2012.
I missed one of my classes because of a minor illness. What should I do?
Missing one or two classes due to a minor illness or other issues is OK. If you do miss a class, make sure that you take the time to catch up on the missed material.
I was ill and couldn't complete my assignment by the due date. What should I do?
Please read and understand the section on Special Consideration in the Administrative Guidelines. Keep in mind that you only have five working days from the due date to submit your forms.
Do I need to buy the textbooks?
The Weiten (2010) textbook is a useful reference for many of the topics studied in psychology. As you progress through to second and third year psychology studies, having an introductory textbook to refer to will be valuable. There are also copies of the book (including many copies of earlier editions) that you can borrow or study in the Special Reserve section. The same can be said for the Burton (2010) book. You should note that if you are continuing with first year psychology in 2012, there will be a new edition of Weiten.
Where do I get the tutorial manual?
The Tutorial Manual will be given to you at the first lecture. If you miss the first lecture, you can pick up a copy at the first tutorial. It is therefore extremely important that you attend the first lecture and tutorial.
I need my Summer School marks to be able to enrol in subjects in the March semester of 2012. What should I do?
For students continuing with their studies at the University of Sydney: If you have pre-enrolled in subjects that require a pass in your Summer School Unit of Study, then you should be able to track your enrolment via MyUni. Your enrolment will be confirmed as soon as your Summer School mark is finalised. This will happen on February 24 at the latest. Keep an eye for important emails or letters from the University during this time in case you need to vary your enrolment. For further advice regarding your enrolment, you may need to contact your Faculty.
For students continuing with their studies at another University: Please contact the Summer School coordinator.
