    Some experiments indicate that ingesting alcohol increases sexual arousal only due to drinkers' expectation that it will. This expectation was already in place two thousand years ago, suggesting that alcohol's effect on sexual arousal, and its unfortunate consequences for the transmission of disease, will be difficult to uproot.
