Title: On- or off-campus study? Using information technology to remove constraints of time and place
Abstract: Advances in information technology (IT) have the potential to enrich the tertiary experience by opening up new ways of delivering courses and facilitating communication amongst students and staff. IT can also help remove constraints of place and time for study. However, making best use of IT requires considerable resources and presents many challenges. This paper discusses some of the issues involved in using IT for course delivery, such as finding the balance between on-line and other forms of teaching and issues of equity and access, which were identified in the Deakin University Electronic Warehouse Project funded by a CUTSD (Organisational) grant during 1998-1999.
