Assessment Task
The task
Your assessment task is to identify data sources, gather, process and present information from secondary sources to identify areas of current research and use the available evidence to discuss some of the underlying physical principles used in one application of physics related to waves.
Some possible technologies for you to choose are:
Follow the links to find information about each topic
Your report should cover:
  • A brief description of the historical and social context of the technology;
  • The underlying physical principles that make the technology work;
  • Some current research being done in connection with the technology; and
  • How the outcomes from that research might affect the community at large.
You might find the History and Big Ideas sections of this site useful.
To be judged satisfactory, your report must :
  • Cover each of the items above;
  • Include information from around 3 to 5 different sources for each item;
  • Be between 1000 and 2000 words in length;
  • Be written in good English;
  • Acknowledge the sources from which you obtained your information.
This assignment is worth 50% of your marks for this unit.
