Submissions to the Undergraduate Studies Committee for Endorsement


Dear USC members,

This site contains the meeting papers for the 23 October meeting of the Undergraduate Studies Committee. As you may already be aware, the impetus for this special meeting is the Academic Board’s request that faculties review learning outcomes for all undergraduate degrees and, where relevant, streams, programs and majors to ensure that they give full expression to the Graduate Qualities. The revised learning outcomes will be used, among other things, as the basis for assessment plans which will outline how the learning outcomes and graduate qualities will be assessed and assist in managing and coordinating assessment across a component or degree.

As there will be a large volume of proposals to review, the Education portfolio have prepared the documents below to help the USC evaluate the revised learning outcomes (links to the documents are in the table below). The guidelines for writing course and component learning outcomes have been previously provided to faculties. Please ensure that what is proposed in the faculty submissions is consistent with these.

If you would like some background as to the Academic Board’s decision to request faculties review their learning outcomes, please refer to a report from the 2017 Assessment Working Group which was endorsed by the Academic Board on 28 November 2017. This document provides a synopsis of how learning outcomes play a role in realisation of the University’s ambition to measure student attainment of the graduate qualities by 2020.
