What elections are held for Fellows of Senate?
Elections are held for the following categories of Fellows of Senate:
Elections held every 2 years
- one Fellow elected by and from the undergraduate students of the University
- one Fellow elected by and from the postgraduate students of the University
- four Fellows elected by and from the academic staff of the University
- one Fellow elected by and from the non-academic staff of the University
Elections held every 4 years
- five Fellows elected by and from the graduates of the University
These elections are conducted in accordance with the University of Sydney By-law 1999.
Other Senate elections
The following additional elections by Senate are conducted:
- the Chancellor elected by Senate - an existing Fellow of Senate or an external person is elected to this position for a four year term of office.
- the Deputy Chancellor elected by Senate - a Fellow of Senate is elected to this position for a two year term of office.
- the Chair, Buildings & Estates Committee elected by Senate - a Fellow of Senate is elected to this position for a two year term of office.
- the Chair, Finance & Audit Committee elected by Senate - a Fellow of Senate is elected to this position for a two year term of office.
- the Chair, Investment & Commercialisation Committee elected by Senate - a Fellow of Senate is elected to this position for a two year term of office.
- the Chair, Safety & Risk Management Committee elected by Senate - a Fellow of Senate is elected to this position for a two year term of office.
- five Fellows elected by Senate to membership of the Chair Appointments Committee - for a two year term of office.
- two Fellows elected by Senate to membership of the Nominations & Appointments Committee - for a two year term of office.
These elections are conducted in accordance with the University of Sydney By-law 1999 and relevant Resolutions of Senate.
