Fellows of Senate

Student Fellows from 1936

Milestones

While Senate was established in 1851, students were not represented on Senate.

It was not until 1936 that undergraduate students gained representation on Senate – by elected graduates.

From 1973, undergraduate and postgraduate students were represented on Senate by 'three Fellows elected from persons enrolled as candidates proceeding to a degree or diploma in the University'.

Since 1990, undergraduate students have been represented on Senate by 'one Fellow elected by and from undergraduate students of the University', and postgraduate students by 'one Fellow elected by and from postgraduate students of the University'.
